Graffiti

One of my latest forays with the camera has been to preserve modern day hieroglyphics/Railroad Graffiti that pass through our everyday environment or that we only glance at in the quickness of our everyday life so that we may marvel at the mystic and spiritualness of the need for man to leave his mark, to preserve his existence.  From the Paleolithic cave paintings and throughout history since, man has had a need to preserve his presence, ‘to leave his mark’.  The railroad has always fascinated me as a cornerstone of our developmental history as a nation and the graffiti, or artwork when done well, has such a story that crosses our country.  My photographic results are to present the photograph as an artwork in itself with a presence of the ‘hand of man’, or in some cases, to illustrate the strength of this great tradition – the railroad.
